Let Go

Our expectations of what should be can get in the way of appreciating the beauty of what is.
We look so far into the past, predicting a future that has nothing to do with the reality of today.
Or we become stuck designing a future that is unrealistic and lacks the authenticity of what we truly desire.
Sometimes, we are slowly killing ourselves through the choices we repeatedly make: neglecting sleep, ignoring our health, staying trapped in chronic stress, and continuing habits we already know are harming us.

Sometimes, and I recommend periodically...
We need to stop, let go of expectations and evaluate the now of things, the truth of things and the true desire we have for our future.
Start with honesty. Look at your life. Are you truly happy?
Do your actions reflect those of a happy person?
Are you honoring your existence, your limited time, your potential?

I often avoid becoming too religious or spiritual in my writing because faith can be polarizing. I never want my beliefs to dishearten someone or cause them to stop reading.
The truth is that I am a deeply spiritual person, with God at the center of my life, and it would be inauthentic for me to pretend otherwise.
That said, there is a verse I love, and it feels especially fitting for this article.
Jeremiah 1:5 in which God declares His intimate knowledge of the prophet before he was born, stating: "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

I love this verse because for me, it is a reminder that God is all-knowing and has a purpose for all of us.
And if you connect more with science, or consider yourself less spiritual, there is still something extraordinary here: as far as we currently know, this is our one and only opportunity to live this life.
And what if you have a passion, a fire, or a persistent pull toward something in life? Maybe you have a special talent. Perhaps you are a fantastic communicator, an artist, a teacher, a creator, or something else entirely.
This life is, as far as we know, the only opportunity we have to explore that.
Don't waste time holding yourself back! Let go and start exploring what it means to live your life fully!

In order to live life fully you need to feel good and to feel good you need to be healthy.
Whatever you believe, the truth is, life is short.
It is precious.
And this is your opportunity.
So again, I say let go!
Stop wasting your life in fear.
Stop wearing yourself down to maintain a life that does not inspire joy.
Stop creating poor health through lifestyle choices you already know are harmful.
Stop trying to be perfect.
Start today
Let go of yesterday.
Let go of the pain.
Let go of perfection.
Let go of fear.
Do the thing you know you should do.
Tell yourself the truth.
Live the life you were designed to live.
Live the life you genuinely desire.
Live healthy.
Live fully.

Maybe You Don’t Know Where to Start
Maybe you feel something stirring as you read this, but you still do not know what to change first.
Start with the basics.
You cannot build a life that feels joyful, purposeful, and healthy while your body and mind are running on empty.
Sleep influences your energy, emotions, decisions, appetite, recovery, focus, and ability to follow through on the promises you make to yourself.
That is why one of the most basic and powerful places to begin is sleep.
